Campus Placements Feel the Global Tech Slowdown
IIT Bombay’s final placement report for the 2024-25 academic year reveals a dip in the placement rate to approximately 70%, down from 75% in the previous cycle. Out of 2,040 participating students who registered for the campus placement drive, 1,422 secured job offers. The decrease highlights a more selective hiring environment among global technology and consulting companies.
According to the institute, the decline is partly due to macroeconomic challenges and conservative headcount expansion by major technology recruiters. However, the placement cell also pointed out that a growing number of graduates opted out of the corporate recruitment process to pursue entrepreneurship, start their own ventures, or enroll in higher education and research programs.

Compensation Averages Rise Despite Volume Dip
In contrast to the volume dip, compensation packages remained strong. The average annual package for placed students rose by over 10% to ₹26.45 lakh, while the median salary reached ₹20 lakh. BTech students achieved the highest placement rate at 81.79%, followed closely by dual-degree candidates at 79.9%, indicating that top-tier engineering talent continues to command high valuation in the job market.
