President Donald Trump has warned global trading partners that any attempt to ‘play games’ with existing deals will be met with even harsher tariffs, following a landmark Supreme Court decision. The Court ruled 6-3 that the President cannot impose indefinite tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) without Congressional approval. In response, Trump has utilized temporary trade authorities to impose a 15% across-the-board tariff for 150 days, vowing to find more ‘powerful and obnoxious’ ways to use trade levies as a negotiating tool.
