Simultaneously, China’s crude oil imports have dropped to an eight-year low of under 8 million barrels per day (bpd), settling at 7.8 million bpd. While immediate disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz contributed to the drop, the structural decline is primarily driven by the rapid adoption of electric vehicles, which now account for nearly two-thirds of Chinese domestic passenger car sales, permanently reducing fuel demand.
