A Golden Season for Retailers: The Navratri Boom
Indian consumer sentiment has reached a fever pitch this Navratri, with retail sales hitting a 10-year high across multiple categories. From automobiles to high-end electronics, the spending spree is estimated to have crossed the ₹45,000 crore mark during the nine-day festival.
The primary catalyst for this boom has been the strategic GST cuts on several consumer goods. The automobile sector was the biggest winner; for instance, sales of popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Venue witnessed a staggering 72% jump compared to last year. High-end lifestyle products and luxury bridal wear also recorded an 85% rise in demand.
Real Estate and Gold Join the Party
The festive cheer wasn’t limited to retail. Real estate developers reported record bookings for new launches, particularly in the NCR and Mumbai regions. Gold sales at major retailers like Tanishq and Kalyan Jewellers also benefited from the “shubh” period, despite high global prices, as consumers viewed the festival as an auspicious time for long-term investments.
