Oppo Seeks Deeper Local Integration
Chinese smartphone giant Oppo is in discussions with Indian contract manufacturers to establish a manufacturing joint venture (JV). The company is focusing on partners like Amber Group and Bhagwati Products, a prominent associate of Micromax. The initiative is part of a broader corporate restructuring to localize Oppo’s Indian business operations.
The proposed joint venture is designed to separate manufacturing operations from sales, distribution, and backend services. It also seeks to integrate Oppo’s manufacturing logistics with its sub-brands, OnePlus and Realme. The shift is heavily influenced by the Indian government’s regulatory push for Chinese electronics brands to partner with local manufacturers.

Bhagwati Products’ Greater Noida Manufacturing Footprint
Bhagwati Products is a strong candidate for the partnership due to its existing role as a contract manufacturer for Oppo and Vivo. The firm has already leased additional industrial space in Greater Noida to expand its assembly capacity. A JV would leverage Bhagwati’s production capabilities and its design collaboration with Chinese ODM Huaqin, which designs devices for Oppo.
