Hyundai Exercises Put Option to Take Full Control of Robotics Leader
Hyundai Motor Group has initiated the acquisition of SoftBank Group’s remaining 9.65% stake in Boston Dynamics for approximately $325 million (~₩500 billion). Extraordinary affiliate board meetings were convened by Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Hyundai Mobis around June 22, 2026, to approve the transaction ahead of the put option exercise deadline on July 20, 2026. The put option was established during the initial 2021 control transaction.

Streamlining Governance for Humanoid Robot ‘Atlas’ Mass Production
The buyout is designed to streamline corporate governance, eliminate conflicts of interest, and speed up the commercialization of Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot, “Atlas”. By consolidating 100% ownership under Hyundai, the group can align manufacturing scale-up plans directly with its global automotive and logistics automation lines, paving a clearer path for a future public listing in the United States.
