Lava Plans Local Component Manufacturing Drive
Indian mobile handset brand Lava International has announced a capital expenditure plan of ₹1,100 crore over the next five years. The investment is aimed at building a local manufacturing ecosystem for critical smartphone components, including camera modules, display assemblies, and multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs). This initiative is designed to increase local value addition and reduce dependence on imported components from China and Vietnam.
The proposed expansion is expected to create approximately 8,500 new jobs in manufacturing, engineering, and quality control. Lava has submitted proposals for fiscal incentives under the government’s Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) and is working with state authorities in Uttar Pradesh to secure land and power infrastructure near its existing facility in Noida.

charger Plant Inauguration Signals Start of Strategy
As an initial step in this strategy, Lava has inaugurated a new mobile charger manufacturing facility at its Noida plant. The facility produces locally designed chargers using domestic components, reducing production costs by approximately 20% compared to importing finished units. The company currently has an annual manufacturing capacity of 40 million mobile phones and aims to transition its assembly plants to full-scale component fabrication facilities.
