Digital Mapping: MeitY to Build 360-Degree National Innovation Database for Startups

MeitY Initiates Unified Registry for Indian Startups

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) are developing a comprehensive “360-degree” national startup registry. Known as the Startup Registry & National Innovation Database, this platform is designed to move beyond a simple directory and function as an interactive hub linking founders, funding rounds, patents, and incubators across the country.

The database will aggregate detailed profiles of startups, including real-time funding stages, patent filings, commercial products, and participation in state-sponsored incubation schemes. By consolidating this data, the government aims to simplify the evaluation process for grants, verify compliance, and provide founders with streamlined access to national programs like BHASKAR and the MAARG mentorship portal.

Ensuring Data Privacy and Security

Given the highly sensitive nature of proprietary business data, the platform is being built in strict compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. The architecture will feature secure tokenization and data localization controls to protect personal and corporate credentials. MeitY plans to integrate this new registry with the existing DPIIT Startup India database and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) records for continuous data verification.
