QOSMIC Secures $3.33M to Revolutionize Space Communication
Bengaluru-based spacetech startup QOSMIC has successfully raised $3.33 million in a highly competitive seed funding round, underscoring the growing investor interest in India’s private space sector. The investment was co-led by prominent venture capital firms Accel and Prosus Ventures, with significant participation from South Park Commons, the AI & Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) at IISc Bangalore, and angel investor Manish Jain. Founded in 2025 by Shreyaans Jain, Rohit Ramakrishnan, and Aloke Kumar, QOSMIC is tackling the escalating “data bottleneck” in low-Earth orbit (LEO).
The startup’s core mission is to replace traditional radio frequency (RF) communication systems with an advanced, end-to-end optical (laser-based) communication stack. As the number of LEO satellites multiplies, legacy RF systems are struggling to handle the massive terabytes of data generated due to spectrum congestion and limited bandwidth. QOSMIC’s laser technology promises up to 100 times higher bandwidth and significantly lower power consumption, representing a generational leap for satellite communications.
Scaling Up for Orbital Testing and Commercial Deployment
QOSMIC will utilize the fresh capital to rapidly scale its manufacturing, integration, and testing capabilities. A major portion of the funds is earmarked for expanding the startup’s specialized engineering teams across optics, mechanical systems, and electronics. The company is actively building both optical communication terminals for satellites and the corresponding optical ground stations required to receive the data on Earth.
The startup has already demonstrated significant technical momentum. Within its first year, QOSMIC successfully achieved Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL6) by validating its full optical communication stack over a 10-kilometer terrestrial link. Building on this terrestrial success, QOSMIC has secured a strategic partnership with TakeMe2Space to conduct vital orbital testing of its optical inter-satellite link terminals. With commercial deployment targeted for Q2 2027, QOSMIC is positioning itself as a critical infrastructure provider for the next generation of global satellite networks.
