Reliance Resizes Recruitment Plans Amid Digital Shift
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has revised its workforce recruitment plan for the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26), reducing planned new hiring by 90,000 positions across its retail, telecom, and digital services divisions. The decision represents a shift in corporate strategy, focusing on integrating previous acquisitions and improving operational efficiencies through automation.
The reduction in hiring targets follows a period of rapid staff expansion, during which Reliance added hundreds of thousands of employees to support its nationwide Jio 5G rollout and retail store network. The company stated that with the core infrastructure phase completed, the focus has transitioned to optimizing staff productivity and deploying AI-driven systems in store operations and customer service.

Focus on Workforce Integration and Retail Efficiencies
The hiring cut is expected to affect entry-level recruitment and customer support roles, particularly in the retail segment. RIL clarified that it will continue to recruit specialized talent for its green energy and technology development verticals. Corporate HR analysts suggest that the move reflects a broader trend among Indian conglomerates, which are focusing on productivity metrics and cost control to maintain margins.
