Justdial Founder VSS Mani Steps Down After 30 Years; Q1 Profit Hits ₹166 Crore

Justdial Leadership Transition Hq 1784002784773

End of an Era as Local Directory Pioneer Relinquishes Control

Just Dial Limited has announced a major leadership transition, with founder V.S.S. Mani stepping down from his role as Managing Director and CEO after three decades at the helm. Having founded the local search pioneer in 1996, Mani successfully navigated Justdial’s transformation from a traditional dial-in telephone directory to a sprawling digital marketplace that lists millions of small businesses across India.

Effective August 1, 2026, the leadership mantle will pass to Dinkar Ayilavarapu, a former Flipkart executive, who is expected to steer the company through its next phase of growth. This pivotal change at the top comes precisely when Justdial is seeking to revitalize its core search operations and leverage its vast business listings in a highly competitive digital ecosystem.

Non-Operating Investment Income Sustains Quarterly Bottom Line

Alongside the transition announcement, the company reported a robust quarterly net profit of ₹166.2 crore for Q1 FY27, representing a 4.1% increase year-on-year and a significant 66.2% sequential rise. Operating revenue also saw a healthy 9.9% year-on-year bump, reaching ₹327.5 crore for the quarter, which triggered a positive reaction in the stock market.

However, a detailed analysis of the earnings report reveals that a substantial portion of Justdial’s net profit continues to be driven by treasury and interest income from its massive cash and investment reserves, which stood at approximately ₹6,022 crore as of June 30, 2026. This dynamic underscores the ongoing challenge the new leadership will face in scaling core operational revenue independently of non-operating investment returns.
